Bruce Arians rips ‘fake news story’ that he’s retiring after the season

Cardinals coach Bruce Arians had fun channeling President Donald Trump Tuesday in refuting a report that he would retire after the season.

If you want to ask me about this fake news story that has come up I’m quoting the president now nothing’s changed, Arians told reporters. I don’t know where all that sh’s came from. Nothing’s changed in the last month, and everybody keeps asking the same question.

Thomas hadn’t played since May 19 because of a torn labrum in his hip that ended his 2017 postseason with Boston and threatened to derail his career. But the 5-foot-9 playmaker, who inspired the Celtics and an entire city last year by playing in the immediate aftermath of his sister’s death, patiently stuck with his rehab.

And with 4:33 left in the first quarter, Thomas checked in to a loud ovation as fans cheered for a player they believe can help the Cavs win another title.

It was a special moment, he said. I haven’t played in a game and you would think I was here for a few years and playing and battling in the Finals with this team. But it was special for my family to be here, my wife and kids to see that, that’s genuine love right there.

The two-time All-Pro running back hasn’t played the last two games and was inactive for Sunday’s 27-11 loss to the Redskins. Although he spent much of the season as the first option behind starter C.J. Anderson, he’s now slipped down the depth chart behind second-year back Devontae Booker and rookie De’Angelo Henderson.

Charles, who turns 31 Wednesday, remains convinced he can still contribute at a high level, and he if the Broncos won’t play him, he wants out.

I ain’t playing. Might as well, Charles said, via the Denver Post. No reason for me to just sit around and look at people play. It is what it is. I’m still going to be supportive of everyone on the team no matter what. I mean, they got my rights right now.

The national anthem was performed by the Every Voice Choirs, a New York City-based group of children born in 2008, the year of the first Winter Classic. The Goo Goo Dolls, a rock band that started in the Buffalo area, performed during the first intermission.

Despite the official temperature at puck drop at 20.5 degrees, the game drew a sellout crowd of 41,821.

It was loud, the crowd was behind both teams, Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh said. It was great for us to find a way to come through in overtime.
