Best trade targets: Undervalued young players with potential
As we’ve seen from the league’s premier franchises time and time again, so much of NBA team-building is about hitting singles and doubles — finding undervalued talent that has yet to reach its peak. As the Feb. 8 trade deadlines approaches, we take a look at a handful of young players who could be worth buying low for both contenders and rebuilding teams alike.
Portland led 33-20 after the first quarter, and its dominance was particularly evidence on the final two baskets. Shabazz Napier stripped J.J. Barea at midcourt and finished with a rare dunk. Seconds later, McCollum had a layup after blowing by Yogi Ferrell so quickly the Dallas guard fell to the ground.
Mavericks: Barea returned to the lineup after missing Tuesday’s game at Denver. He scored 12 points. … This is the second time this season Dallas has had a four-day break in between games. The Mavericks are 0-2 in that situation. … Devin Harris suffered a head injury during the first half and didn’t return.
Anriel Howard had 21 points and 14 rebounds and No. 15 Texas A&M overcame a three-point halftime deficit to beat LSU 69-59 on Monday night.
Khaalia Hillsman added 14 points and Jasmine Lumpkin had 10 points, eight rebounds and eight assists for the Aggies (16-5, 5-2 SEC). Chennedy Carter had 10 points to avoid the first single-digit scoring output of her freshman season. She was just 2 of 13 from the field and 6 of 8 from the foul line.
Wednesday’s game will feature some serious Big East Conference firepower, with two of the top four active career scoring leaders on the court in Bluiett and Marquette guard Andrew Rowsey, who already has eclipsed 2,000 career points.
The first meeting between the two schools went down to the wire at the Bradley Center, with Xavier winning 91-87 behind 23 points from Bluiett and 15 from J.P. Macura. The Musketeers won despite Rowsey putting on a shooting clinic, with 31 points and six 3-pointers.
Xavier, however, did a solid job defending the Golden Eagles’ leading scorer, Markus Howard, who had 13 points on 6-of-19 shooting. He was 1 of 8 from 3-point range, but averages 21.5 points for the season.
